Everton fought resolutely on Thursday night to guarantee their place in the Premier League next season
Alex Iwobi posted another solid performance for the Toffees as they came from behind to snatch a Premier League place at the death.
Jean-Phillipe Mateta scored the opener for Crystal Palace in the 21st minute as Everton started on the worst note possible.
The Eagles were bound to fly when Jordan Ayew doubled Palace’s advantage in the 36th minute to further compound Everton’s woes at Goodison Park.
The Toffees, backed by their vocal fans came out smoking in the second half and took the game to the relaxed visitors.
Michael Keane restored some hope in the 54th minute, as the game took a dramatic turn. Brazilian striker Richarlison kept Everton’s hopes of survival in their grasp in the 75th minute.
Iwobi, starting from the right wing-back was drafted back into the midfield as Frank Lampard changed shapes. He continued his massive resurgence under the former Chelsea manager, fought for every ball, moved greatly and constantly provided options.
Sighting potential safety, Everton pushed for a third and got it through Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the 85th minute. The attacker was a second half substitute for Demarai Gray.
It had to be the big attacker as he’s been missing for a significant part of the season and was sorely missed up until the present moment. He came up clutch at the perfect time to guarantee the Merseysiders a place in the Premier League next season, continuing a time in the league that is beaten only by Arsenal.
Iwobi has put a mad shift today
