Everton’s relegation tussle became even more difficult on Sunday as they lost at home to Brentford
Brentford manager, Thomas Frank got the better of his opposite number on the Everton bench, Frank Lampard as they came from behind twice to defeat the Toffees at Goodison Park.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored the opener for Everton in the 10th minute as the hosts looked on course for another important victory but Jarrad Branthwaite had other opinions as he picked up a red card for Everton in the 18th minute.
Brentford piled pressure but Everton didn’t look rattled despite playing with a numerical disadvantage.
The Bees however stung Everton in the 37th minute but the danger came from the Toffees skipper, Seamus Coleman.
They didn’t wait for too long before working a penalty out as Richarlison stepped up to take the kick and give Everton a cushion into the break.
Brentford came out the better side in the second half and made good use of their one-man advantage. Their clutch player, Congolese international Yoanne Wissa scored a much-deserved equaliser in the 62nd minute.
Substitute Rico Henry scored Brentford’s third just two minutes later to put Everton in a potentially risky situation. As the Toffees fought for an equaliser, Salomon Rondon picked up a red card just four minutes after his introduction for a second bookable offense and left Everton with 9 men.
Alex Iwobi featured from start to finish in the game, and played in a variety of positions, including right full-back, right wing-back and at some point in the centre back.
It was a less impressive performance in comparison with what he has given in previous weeks and that’s not unconnected with the Toffees’ red cards.
Everton currently sit 16th with two games to go against Crystal Palace and Champions League-chasing Arsenal.
They are two points away from the relegation zone and are battling survival against Leeds United and Burnley. Leeds United in 17th are a point lesser than Everton having played one more game while Burnley currently occupying the 18th position also have two games to go.
