After winning a bid to host the CAF Confederations Cup final, one of Nigeria’s best stadiums will host the continent
Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo has been picked by the Confederation of African Football to host the final of the CAF Confederations Cup.
While rumours of the successful bid of the stadium had made the rounds, the African football governing body didn’t make an official announcement until Wednesday, the 11th of May.
The final will be held on the 20th of May with CAF to decide on the kickoff time in the coming days.
It will be the first international major cup final to be hosted at the stadium, which was the Super Eagles’ home ground for at least 5 years.
The last Confederations Cup final was hosted in Cotonou, the commercial capital of Benin Republic, as Moroccan side Raja Casablanca defeated JS Kabylie of Algeria 2-1.
Places for this year’s final are still up with RS Berkhane, TP Mazembe, Al Ahli Tripoli and Orlando Pirates all in contention for a place in the final.
Should Orlando Pirates qualify for the final, former Akwa Utd defender, Olisa Ndah will be in contention to play in the stadium he shone again while he plied his trade in the Nigerian Professional Football League.
