Super Eagles striker is the first player in Union Berlin history to score 13 goals in the Bundesliga

Union Berlin attacker, Taiwo Awoniyi has said he’s not surprised at how good his career is turning out in the capital club as he always works to improve on his game.

In an exclusive interview with Soccernet, the former Liverpool attacker said he feels welcome at Union Berlin and that has helped him become better than he’s ever been.

Awoniyi joined Union at the beginning of the season after a successful loan spell last season.

He has since established himself as one of the best marksman in the German top flight and has played for the Super Eagles in a major tournament.

“Like I always say, its been God, he made all things possible. I think for sure it takes a lot of hard work, dedication and doing the best for yourself, ” he told Soccernet.

“But the goal is always to get better, to make yourself better than who you were before.”

He said the club has given him a great platform to thrive and he has learned from the coach of the team.

Awoniyi has been a beneficiary of great belief in his quality and this helped him bounce back after a downtime with the team.

“It’s a place where everyone is welcome, everyone is treated fairly and of course we have a great group, a great coach that knows what he’s doing. He knows how to bring out the best from everyone and I think that’s just the key.

“I will never say I’ve overachieved. The goal is to be better than who I am. When I came to Berlin, I just need a place to feel welcome, a place to have opportunities. I thank God for the coaches and team for being behind me when it’s not going good, they are still behind you. For me, being here is about doing the best for myself, developing my skill and talent and I think that’s what is happening presently,” he said.

A Premier League move is on the cards for the attacker at the end of the season with a host of suitors interested in his services.
