Les Merlus endured a problematic afternoon away from home as they suffered their 16th league defeat of the campaign
Super Eagles midfielder Bonke Innocent went off Injured in the first half of Rennes’ 5-0 thrashing of Terem Moffi’s Lorient in a French Ligue 1 meeting at the Roazhon Park on Sunday.
Innocent was making his tenth league appearance for Lorient in the encounter since his free transfer from Swedish side Malmo FF in January.
But the Nigerian international went down injured under a challenge just past the half-hour mark and, despite receiving medical attention, was replaced by Armand Lauriente.
Rennes were leading 2-0 at the time, courtesy of early goals from Benjamin Bourigeaud and Martin Terrier.
Nigerian forward Terem Moff, who has seven goals and four assists in 32 league games this term, was introduced into the encounter in place of Boisgard in the 64th minute.
But further goals from Hamari Traore, Flavien Tait, and Gaetan Laborde confirmed Rennes’ superiority over their visitors. Rennes played the last 30 odd minutes with ten men following the dismissal of Nayef Aguerd.
The defeat leaves Lorient three points above the relegation zone with four more games left in the campaign.
