The Rojiblancos picked up their first victory in three games, and Umar was at the heart of it all
Super Eagles striker Sadiq Umar scored the first goal for Almeria in their 3-0 thrashing of Ponferradina.
The Rojiblancos were looking to return to winning ways after a couple of poor results, and welcoming Ponferradina at the Estadio de Los Juegos Mediterráneos was a decent way to break their winless streak.
The game was balanced from the start, but Almeria looked more threatening on the break. It took them 16 minutes to take the lead, as Umar finished with aplomb to make it 1-0.
Ponferradina came out to attack after they conceded, but Almeria held out for the 1-0 scoreline till the break.
In th second half, it was masterclass attacking football from Rojiblancos. Within seven minutes after the restart, Arnau Puigmal scored the second for Almeria.
Umar could have scored more, as he had three shots on goal, but Amir Abedzadeh was up to the task.
Almeria put the final nail in their visitors’ coffins in stoppage time; Inigo Eguaras poached their third to help Almeria to a comfortable 3-0 victory.
The win takes Almeria to second place on the Laliga 2 table, one point behind Eibar. And Umar’s strike was his 16th of the season.
