Club action continued in Europe on Thursday, and some Nigerian stars were involved for their teams.
It was a good outing for Nigerian midfielder Anderson Esiti in the Hungarian top flight. The former PAOK man scored his first goal for Ferencvaros since his transfer from PAOK in January.
Esiti put Ferencvaros in front with a sublime finish in the 18th minute. The Hungarian champions went further ahead through Moroccan striker Ryan Mmae, who scored their second in the 49th minute. However, Ferencvaros capitulated just after scoring their second, as Puskas Academy scored two goals within five minutes to secure a 2-2 draw.
In Denmark, former MFM FC striker Stephen Odey was at it again for Randers. The 24-year-old assisted Vito Hammershoy-Mistrati’s 21st-minute goal, which turned out to be the winner away at Brondby. That assist was his third goal involvement in three consecutive games for the Horses.
Also, his compatriot Tosin Kehinde put up a brilliant performance in the middle of the park for Randers. Kehinde won three of his five duels, had 44 touches, and an 88 percent pass accuracy.
Meanwhile, in Armenia, Iwu Ugochukwu scored his first goal in ten appearances for Urartu to help them to an emphatic 3-0 victory over Van.
Artur Miranyan put the home side in front in the 52nd minute before Ugochukwu doubled their lead twelve minutes later. Then Jonel Desire cemented the lead with a penalty five minutes later. The victory ensures that Urartu progress to the final of the Armenian Cup, where they will battle Noravank.
Finally, in Belgium, it was a terrible day in the office for Valentine Ozornwafor, as his Charleroi side suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat away at Anderlecht.
The Nigerian defender played in a back three, but he could not help his side much. Goals from Kouame, Zirkzee, Amuzu, and Murillo gave Vincent Kompany’s lads the victory.
