‘We will bounce back from this setback’- New Super Eagles invitee apologises to Nigerians

New Super Eagles invitee Akinkunmi Amoo has apologised to Nigerians after the disappointing 1-1 draw against Ghana, which ensured that the Black Stars clinched the Qatar 2022 World Cup ticket on away goals rule.

Nigeria played a goalless draw against Ghana in the first leg at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi. They needed a victory in Abuja to seal qualification to the Mundial.

However, the Ghanaians ensured that the Super Eagles would not be at the World Cup for the first time in 16 years after they picked a 1-1 draw at the Moshood Abiola Stadium.

The result was not a palatable one for many Nigerian fans, as many shared their displeasure with the result.

FC Copenhagen star Amoo followed the footsteps of Super Eagles vice-captain William Troost-Ekong to send his apology to Nigerian fans after the disappointing result.

Tears and pains, it wasn't the result we wanted. We apologize for not making it to Qatar. I'm honoured for the opportunity, my joy would have been accomplished with a World Cup ticket. Life is about learning, we will bounce back from this setback. We appreciate your support 🇳🇬. pic.twitter.com/BS0ZGoxPqM

The 19-year-old got his first Super Eagles call up for the game against Ghana, but it ended on a sad note, and he did not get the chance to get his first international cap.

I miss Genor Rohr, this is the match he would have won. He is tactical when it comes to this kind of game. He would have either win in Ghana and draw in Nigeria. See what he did to Cameroon, Algeria during 2018 World Cup qualifier.

Though if he was in charge of Super Eagles during AFCON, he wouldn’t have won all the matches, but he would have gone far.

Eguavoen tactical approach to matches can easily be mapped out. He was a physical player during his playing time with this same physical approach mentality to his boys. His pattern remains MAMD, that is (mass-attack-mass-defense)

To play this kind of pattern, the coach has to be highly technical to employ this strategy.
