What followed would come to be some of the most beautiful moments in recent time as fans of the Super Eagles.
Against Cameroon in Uyo, the Super Eagles caged the Indomitable Lions in their nest and made a mincemeat of their quality.
The floodgates were opened with Odion Ighalo tussling and holding off a Cameroonian defender to bury a beautiful finish past Fabrice Ondoa in the Cameroon goal.
Ighalo’s smart application was also pivotal in Nigeria’s second as he sold a dummy to the Cameroonian defence, from a Victor Moses’ corner kick. Captain of the side John Obi Mikel was on hand to score his second of the qualifiers as he poked the ball into the Cameroon goal.
The third on that evening came from Moses as he converted cooly from a Moses Simon lay off.
Kelechi Iheanacho headed the fourth goal of the night in after beautiful work by Simon. Nigeria defeated rivals Cameroon 4-0 to open a lead at the top of the log.
