Cyriel Dessers was snubbed by Nigerian national team handlers for the games against Ghana but the attacker is focusing on his club form.
Thr Super Eagles striker volleyed in an equaliser for the Dutch team after going down in the game. It proved to be the wake up call Feyenoord needed as they ran out 5-2 victors against their Serbian opponents. It was their first victory in Serbia since 1981.
In his interview after the game, Dessers said it’s his first start in three months and he felt good after the game.
“This is my first start in three months and I thought I was doing okay both physically and on the pitch. I hope this is the starting signal: the first game ok, the second good and from the third game I can hopefully get back to my top form. I’m looking forward to finally showing that.”
On the game, the former Genk attacker said they made the game difficult for themselves, as they conceded quick goals.
“I don’t think we played badly, but we conceded two goals out of nowhere and made it difficult for ourselves. After the 2-2, the team calmed down a bit. We started to play the ball better and came into our own power. If you can come back like that and score five goals against a team that hasn’t lost here this season, that says something.”
