The former Manchester City forward gets on well with club teammate Wilfred Ndidi but has revealed his admiration for another international colleague
Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho agrees that fellow Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen is a fantastic talent and a great goalscorer. And Iheanacho confesses that he loves playing alongside the Napoli ace because they understand each other’s games.
This season, Osimhen has added to his growing profile as an excellent attacker by being a terror to defenders and goalkeepers in the Europa League and the Italian Serie A.
But multiple facial injuries that required surgery and COVID-19 forced him to miss the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, denying Nigerian fans the chance to see his burgeoning partnership with Iheanacho.
Head coach Augustine Eguavoen has named both of them in the 25-man squad to face Ghana in Kumasi on Friday in the first leg of the 2022 FIFA World Cup playoffs.
And Iheanacho says he is looking forward to working with the former Lille star to shoot down the Black Stars.
“Everybody knows he’s a fantastic striker. He’s a great goal poacher,” Iheanacho told FIFA.com.
“He has great talent. I’m always very happy playing alongside him because I know his game, I know his strengths, and he knows mine as well.
“Sometimes, I find myself playing behind him. I think we have a good partnership and hopefully, we’ll work more together going forward.”
Iheanacho won the FIFA U-17 World Cup with the Golden Eaglets in 2013. Two years later, Osimhen smashed the competition’s goalscoring record to help Nigeria retain the title.
