Former Super Eagles attacker, Yakubu Aiyegbeni has weighed in on Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying match against Ghana.
On Ghana’s Joy Sports, the former Middlesbrough and Everton attacker said that it’s very important for Nigeria to be at the World Cup but same can’t be said for Ghana.
Aiyegbeni who is the third top scorer in the history of the Super Eagles said there is great rivalry between both teams and their games are always keenly contested.
“Playing with Ghana is always going to be a big big rivalry because we believe we are the best” he said.
“Just imagine Nigeria not qualifying for the World Cup. Ghana not qualifying for the world cup is not a big deal,”
Nigeria has been at the World Cup six times while Ghana has been at the mundial three times. The Ghanaians however have made it to the second round of the World Cup once and also the quarterfinal once, which is so far Africa’s best performance at the tournament.
Ghana shares the record alongside Senegal and Cameroon.
Aiyegbeni played at the 2010 World Cup for Nigeria and scored once at the tournament against South Korea.
