“We will never stop fighting” – Excellent Nwakaeme insists no slowing down for title-chasing Trabzonspor

The Nigerian forward was yet again the match-winner for the Black Sea Storm as they edge closer to a first league triumph in nearly four decades

Nigeria’s Anthony Nwakaeme has maintained that Trabzonspor are not willing to take their foot off the pedal until they achieve their target of winning the Turkish Super Lig.

Nwakaeme is super bullish of his team’s chances after delivering another masterclass performance in Trabzonspor’s come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Kayserispor on Saturday.

Mario Gavranovic and Mame Baba Thiam handed the visitors a two-goal lead at the break.

But Edin Visca kicked off a remarkable comeback for the home side shortly after the interval.

Nwakaeme assisted Djaniny to net the equaliser in the 59th minute before the one-cap Super Eagles star smashed home a 99th-minute penalty to complete an extraordinary turnaround.

Taking away his goal and assist, Nwakaeme was still the best player on the Medical Park Stadyumu in Trabzon.

The 32-year-old completed the most dribbles (6), created the most chances (9), made the most key passes (8), and won the most duels (9) during the encounter.

It is not the first time Nwakaeme’s heroics would power coach Abdullah Avci’s men to victory this term. The former Hapoel Be’er Sheva man has contributed six goals (three goals, three assists) in his side’s last six games, all wins.

Overall this term, Nwakaeme has made an 18-goal contribution (9 goals, 9 assists) in just 21 appearances.

And his performances have seen Trabzonspor become the undisputed Turkish Super Lig’s leaders with 66 points while boasting the best attack and the best defence in the top-flight.

There is a 17-point difference between the Black Sea Storm and second-placed Konyaspor (played one fewer game) with just eleven more rounds of matches left to play.

But Nwakaeme insists Trabzonspor will not relent in their charge towards the club’s first league win in 38 years.

“We will never stop fighting until we see the trophy in our hands,” Trabzonspor’s number nine said after the game against Kayserispor, as per Fanatik.

“Kayserispor started the game well, but more important than the beginning is the end. We also finished well. Congratulations to the whole team.”

Nwakaeme won three league titles and two Super Cups during his time in Israel.

While he is yet to lift the league title in Turkey, the Nigerian winger has claimed the Turkish Cup and the Super Cup in his four-year stay in the country.
