There was a lot of action in Europe over the weekend. The leagues continue to heat up as some of them slowly grind to their halt.
Overall, it was a decent Sunday for Nigerian players, as some of them were outstanding for their sides, helping their clubs to resounding victories.
Anthony Nwakaeme
The Big Nigerian striker was on fire for Trabzonspor in their 4-0 victory away at Alanyaspor.
The 32-year-old made light work of their Turkish rivals, scoring twice in the first 26 minutes to help his side settle into the game with ease.
Goals from Cornelius and Tokoz cemented a 4-0 victory for the Black Sea Storm. The triumph for Trabzonspor further cements their place at the top of the Turkish Super Lig, 14 points above second-placed Konyaspor, who have a game in hand.
Zaidu Sanusi
Sanusi was in top form, as he helped Porto secure a hard-fought 1-0 victory away at Moreirense.
The 24-year-old left-back played his 14th Liga Portugal game of the season when his side travelled to Moreirense.
Moreirense sit 18th on the Portuguese league table, battling relegation. But they put up a solid fight against the Dragons.
Porto took the lead in the first half through Evanilson, but they struggled to score more.
However, they kept it tight at the back. Sanusi had a 79 percent pass accuracy; he won seven duels and two successful tackles.
The victory takes Porto to six points above second-placed Sporting on the Liga Portugal table.
Paul Olayinka
The Super Eagles star was outstanding for the Czech Republic Champions. He scored the only goal of the game for Slavia Prague in their 1-0 home victory over Bohemians.
The goal was his first since the 15th of December last year, and it ensured that Slavia Prague stayed on top of the table, tied with Victoria Plzen. But the Stitched have a better goal difference.
Sadiq Umar
The Almeria talisman continues to show his supremacy in the Laliga2. He scored twice for Almeria to help the Rojiblancos secure a tough 2-1 victory over Mirandes.
The Nigerian star opened the scoring in the 69th minute and followed up with another strike three minutes later to give his side a two-goal lead.
Sergio Camello’s scored for Mirandes in stoppage time, but it was just a consolation.
Almeria continue to push for Laliga promotion. They sit second on the log, a point behind first-place Eibar.
Paul Onuachu
It was a disappointing night for the big Genk man. He failed to score a goal for the first time in three games, as Genk fell to a 2-0 defeat away at Anderlecht.
First-half goals from Ashimeru and Verschaeren were enough to see Anderlecht through.
Onuachu only had a yellow card to show for all his troubles.
