The Super Eagles star was instrumental in Lampard’s first Premier League victory with Everton, and his boss has taken a liking to him
Everton boss Frank Lampard has praised Alex Iwobi for his performance in their 3-0 victory over Leeds United, and he believes the Super Eagles star has a lot of talent, but he needs to work hard.
Iwobi got his first start under new boss Frank Lampard in their 3-0 victory against Leeds United last week. The Nigerian star put up a decent shift at wing-back to help them to their first Premier League victory since the 6th of December 2021.
However, that was Iwobi’s best performance in a while, as he has been below par for most of the season, and memories of his horrific Africa Cup of Nations performance still lingers.
Nonetheless, Lampard believes that the 25-year-old has a lot of quality, but he just needs to put in the work.
“He’s a quiet lad and a very talented player,” Lampard said ahead of their game against Southampton, as per Liverpool echo.
“He feels it [confidence] from me, and the rest is up to him. He put it in and felt like he could run for another 90 minutes,” he added.
Everton travel to the St. Mary’s to play Southampton on Saturday, and Iwobi will fancy his chances at getting another starting shirt, as Demarai Gray is still out injured.
