The former sports manager has been left bewildered by the sheer quality of Nigeria’s leading striker
Italian pundit Enrico Fedele believes Napoli striker Victor Osimhen possessed nearly all the ingredients needed to be rated among the world’s finest finishers.
A freak facial injury and coronavirus issues have slowed Osimhen down from displaying his full potential, despite a promising start to the present campaign.
Still, the 23-year-old remains Napoli’s leading goalscorer in the Italian Serie A and the Europa League, where he has seven and four goals, respectively.
Fedele is wary of praising Osimhen to the high heavens before reaching his full potential, with concerns still surrounding his technique and coordination.
But the former sports manager does not doubt that the Nigerian forward’s athleticism will continue to make him a nightmare to defenders.
“We are talking about an athlete lent to football,” Fedele said of Osimhen, as per Area Napoli.
“The Napoli striker has great physical qualities, but with a technique to be completely refined. I am convinced that if he improves, he can become one of the best strikers in the world.
“I agree that he has qualities, but we cannot exalt him too much at the moment.”
Osimhen was the hero for the Neapolitans at the weekend when he came off the bench to equalise in their 1-1 draw at Cagliari.
The former Lille star will hope to keep up his impressive goalscoring tally in the Europa League when Barcelona visit the Stadio Diego Maradona on Thursday in the second leg of their knockout clash. The first leg finished 1-1 at Camp Nou.
