The 2021/22 January transfer window opened on Saturday 1 January 2022 with trading in the Italian Serie A starting on Monday 3 January
Italian giants Inter Milan have set their sights on acquiring prolific Nigeria forward Paul Onuachu during the winter transfer window, according to a report by Calcioline.
The report claims that the reigning Serie A champions see Onuachu as the perfect alternative to star forward Edin Dzeko.
Dzeko, signed from AS Roma to replace Chelsea-bound Romelu Lukaku in the summer, has been excellent for Inter, with the former Manchester City ace netting three goals in six Champions League games and eight goals in 18 Serie A matches.
But the Bosnian, 35, will not play forever, and Inter CEO Beppe Marotta is already looking for the best options in the market.
Boasting good height and technical ability, Onuachu is almost a like-for-like alternative to Dzeko.
And with a 66-goal contribution (59 goals and seven assists) in 95 matches for Genk since joining the Belgian side just over two years ago, the Super Eagles striker has shown he is one of Europe’s top marksmen.
The 27-year-old is, however, presently recovering from a hamstring injury that ruled him out of Nigeria’s squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon.
Onuachu is currently valued at 22 million euros, as per Transfermarkt. Any interested suitor would have to cough up a figure around that sum to convince Genk to part with their prized asset.
