One of Nigeria’s brightest youngsters has switched Stockholm for Copenhagen hours before the winter transfer window closes

Nigeria’s teenage star Akinkunmi Amoo has completed a record switch from Sweden’s Hammarby IF to former Denmark champions FC Copenhagen.

Announcing the deal on their official Twitter account, the Danish club confirmed that Amoo has inked a four-year contract.

In committing to the White Lions, Amoo ends his one-and-a-half-year stay at Hammarby, a side he joined in June 2020 after making a huge impression with the Golden Eaglets at the cadet World Cup.

The youngster won the Swedish Cup with the Bajen in his first year at the club and enjoyed an even better campaign last season, narrowly missing out on the Allsvenskan’s young player award.

Overall, the 19-year-old played 48 games for Hammarby, netting 13 goals and laying on six assists from the right-wing.

FC Copenhagen did not reveal the financial details of the deal, but Tipsbladet reports that, aside from securing a resale clause in the agreement, Hammarby will receive between £3.5m and £4m for Amoo. Whichever figure is correct, it will make the young Nigerian playmaker the club’s biggest ever sale.

Copenhagen are currently second on the Danish Superliga table, two points behind leaders FC Midtjylland. And the signing of Amoo could help The Lions push for their first league title in three years.
