The Super Eagles winger won his first major trophy with the Yellow Submarines last year, and he is hoping to do the same on the international scene
Nigeria forward Samuel Chukwueze has stated that he aims to win the Africa Cup of Nations trophy in Cameroon just like he won the Europa League with Villareal last season.
The 22-year-old played a vital role in helping Villarreal claim their first Europa League title last year. He scored one goal and assisted four in eleven appearances, and he could have had more if not for his injury in the semifinals against Arsenal.
At this year’s Africa Cup of Nations, the former Under-17 star is looking to rise from the disappointment of the 2019 semifinal, which Nigeria lost to Algeria.
He already scored a goal against Sudan in Nigeria’s last game, and he aims to win his first international trophy in Cameroon.
“For now, I don’t miss my club, I’m just focusing on my country,” he told Brila TV.
“I need to do everything possible for them to win the trophy. I’ve won a trophy for my club, so I want to win a trophy for my country also, so that they will remember me,” he added.
Nigeria face off against Guinea-Bissau next, but they have already secured a spot in the knockout stages after their 3-1 victory over Sudan on Saturday.
