The president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) met with the Sports Minister to discuss the future of the embattled coach
NFF President Amaju Pinnick has said that any decision the association takes on Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr will be in the interest of Nigerians.
Pinnick said this after he met with the sports minister Sunday Dare in Abuja, where they discussed the future of Rohr.
Rohr is on the brink of the sack due to the Super Eagles recent performances. The German tactician has been the Super Eagles coach since 2016, but his position has now become untenable.
Pinnick had earlier debunked rumours that the NFF had sacked the German, but he did confirm that his position would be reviewed and discussed with the sports minister.
And following the meeting on Thursday evening, the FIFA council member hinted that Rohr would be sacked soon.
“We have discussed with the Minister. We have a new direction, I have to discuss with my Executive Members. I will also come back to give feedback to the Minister, Pinnick told the media.
“We are working in a close harmony with the sports ministry. We don’t want to hurt Nigerians. We are looking at our decision from an objective perspective. Trust me, whatever we are doing, it will be in the interest of the country.
“We have looked at all the documentation. I can assure Nigerians we will have a clear direction soon,” he added.
Pinnick did not reveal if the NFF already has a replacement lined up, but Soccernet had earlier reported that former coach Jo Bonfrere had expressed his interest in the job.
The interest of Nigeria is for Gernot Roh to remain as Super Eagles Coach.
The interest of Nigeria is for the coach to be sack, and let’s get a better Coach. A clueles coach without tatics and intensity A team that cannot hold the ball and move forward. Always passing the ball around without moving forward. No creativity. Rohn playing pattern is an eyesore please I don’t want to develop eye cancer during the Afcon tournament

Dont sack Rohr till after AFCON
Nigerian interest is that the coach who has been getting us results stays. Can’t change a winning team. The players are in sink with this opinion. Whose interests are the NFF and Sports Minister pursuing? Leave the couch alone to concentrate on his job. He has done relatively well.
But if because you’re in position, you’re determined to see him out, you MUST pay him ALL termination benefits including the US2m provided in his contract.
NFF and the Sport Ministry should allow Coach Gernot Rohr to concentrate on his job. Stop your distractions, you guys are responsible for the poor outings lately
Rohr is not going anywhere. Nigerian politicians and useless miinisters can’t even fix bad roads and electricity.
If Nigerians have a scintillant or a modicum of conscience and common sense, they will first demand all the current politicians in Nigeria to relinquish from their jobs before complaining about someone’s else’s job.
Let the majority view carry the day.
Genot Rohr should be allowed to take the Super Eagles to AFCON and the NFF and Sports ministry can take a decision on him from the outcome of the AFCON. You don’t throw away the baby with the bath water.
Part of the conditions given to Rohr was to qualify Nigeria for AFCON and he has done so successfully. The other part is to qualify the Eagles for Qatar 2022 and he is almost taking us there, please let’s be patient with him. A new coach will not be in the interest of the Super Eagles for now with AFCON around the corner. Rohr has been sowing into the Super Eagles and he should be allowed to reap.
God bless the Super Eagles, the NFF, the Sports ministry and Nigeria.
2018 wc Last outing,, we had a fair game and error in substitutions.. likewise nation’s cup.. but of recent the team isn’t clicking… We lacked identity, zero pattern of play.. my advice is they should allow him take charge in nation’s cup,, then Qatar 22 they should get a better couch from Spain…
Nation cup should be sacrificed because of Rohr. There’s no fixed time for the firing of any coach. NFF is corrupt that’s why they hired Rohr.
Allow Rohr to go on with his job. Why changing the rule of game at the middle of the game? We have a crucial competition in less than a month and you are thinking of bringing a new coach? We need to be more rational in our thinking and decision making process. Posterity will not forgive our leaders in sports ministry and NFF if Nigeria fail to do well in AFCON and world cup play offs.
Even Spain sacked a coach few weeks to the world cup. Nigeria has sacked Shaibu Amodu after qualifying us for world cup. So no time is too late to sack a coach
Where does your example end them?
I just laughed we are now changing coach because of playing pattern not because we are not winning tenement. I remain why we failed at 2002 world cup and why we were unable to qualify for AFCON and when player used to protest for none payment. All this people call Sack him just forget. The next debate will be Home or Foreign coach?
Remember this is the only thing giving this country joy bring in another Olish, Onigbende or Bora Milutinović etc will be worst. A coach is as good as Sport ministry, NFF and Players.
We should be talking on Egypt not manipulating the draw date to favour them to play off.
A new coach now is = failed AFCON and world cup mark my words.
Let him take us to the nation’s cup and then review things if then he fails to achieve results- Silver or bronze, then we can kick his ass and get an Italian coach, for a change. They have a winning mentality.
Rohr undoubtedly should lead the coaching team to Cameroon.
He has met targets and he’s passionate about his job.
Apparently, world cup qualifiers is tough .There are no easy games.Whether you win ugly or beautiful the bottom line is victory after 90 minutes.
Besides, the Afcon is just around the corner, hiring a new coach could derail the chemistry and plans of the team, giving the new coach an easy reasons or excuse for failure.
GERNOT ROHR must stay!!
Gernot Rohr is a passive and clueless coach without a good pattern of play. We had given the man every chance in the world to gather and improve players but what we are only seeing is playing without intensity, team work, confidence and focus. See how minnows like cape Valdez and co., outplayed us. Sack him!
Bonfrefre who? Must the new coach be same age with Mr. President?
The interest of Nigeria is for the coach to be sack, and let’s get a better Coach.
Why sack someone who has achieved his targets. If Rohr and Eagles win the next AFCON will we be saying sack him. qualifiers are just that , qualifiers . The real thing will come later. So if a coach has not yet been lined up who then is taking over . Rohr has submitted his list to CAF . Will the next coach drop these players for others . If Eagles fail at AFCON who is to blame . The coach NFF or the Minister. The Secretary of Sports has no role in the sacking or hiring of coaches in the UK. Until we in Africa , do our respective jobs then we are going to be back to square one . The state of facilities and football as a whole needs to be addressed . Players welfares need to be taken care of . The leagues and clubs need a overhaul . We need to go back tk the great days of Green Eagles , shooting starts Enugu Rangers and Raca Rovers . Until then leave this poor Rohr allows – he has come to help us , worked without getting paid and yet we talk about sacking him, when 90% of us would have left our jobs after a month of no pay
I just laughed we are now changing coach because of playing pattern not because we are not winning atonement or qualifying for one. I remain when we failed at 2002 world cup and why we were unable to qualify for AFCON and when player used to protest for none payment. All this people call Sack him just forgot.
A new coach now is = failed AFCON and world cup, mark my words.
Why not use the $2m pay off to better prepare us for the AFCON and World cup qualify that is so close.
Quick question o? is it the coach that make some of our player to miss clear scoring opportunity? because is those home game that pissed people off we missed cheap goals. May be we need a “scape goal” to blame.
You are looking for your own interest not the interest of Nigerians.
You are the one causing Indiscipline in the camp by not allowing Rohr to sanction erring players.
Rohr is not going anywhere.
If we don’t win the Afcon Nigerians will hold you responsible
This coach should be sacked because he has succeeded in eliminating the fear factor other nations have when playing Nigeria and now he makes our players believe that we’re the underdog even against weak football nations. This is a core reason why the team have been underperforming since he took over.
Fear factor is a thing of the pass no small team do not blame coach alone. Gone are the day some poor country respect us because our players were playing abroad. Now other country have player abroad too.
The best coach need responsible players and supporter to win.
Neither the coach is sack or retained,if rohr stays hundred years as super eagle coach,he will never win any trophy as a coach of eagles.he can’t give what he does not have ,mentalityand technically is not sounds.
Well whether Gennot Rohr stay or not lies with NFF. However, my concern is the time lag between now and the AFCON tournament which is 36 days from today 3rd of December, 2021. Let the authority (NFF and the sports Ministry) removes the unnecessary bottle neck to decisions making process and finalize by next week everything about the coach. If by next week, a precise decision is not reach between these two bodies (NFF and Sport Minister). It means, I doubt our performance in the Nations Cup in Cameroon. We might go out in the first round or possibly round of 16. Let us watch and see, if the final decision is not attained by next week Friday 10th December, 2021. Early preparation is required. God bless Nigeria.
Why do we need to sack
NIGERIA FOOTBALL PLEASE CHOOSE ZINEDINE ZIDANE AS YOUR NEW COACH FOR WORLD CUP
We need to sack Rohr now and appoint indigenous coach like Emmanuel Amuneke with Salisu they know the players already and will perform better than this clueless man Rohr.
Good morning. Please sack Rohr. He had been given enough time to develop a formidable team but keeps promising the team all get better. Will getting better be at the COMPETITIONS. SACK HIM NOW. GERARD JUST TOOK OVER ASTON VILLA ,THOMAS TUCHEL JUST TOOK OVER ATC CHELSEA WITH RESOUNDING SUCCESS
U had oliseh wat did he achieve
Why is it that we always play politics with Nigerian football? That is where the unity, hearts and souls of Nigerians lie. Lots of Nigerians had gotten bp as a result of their passion for football. NFF and the Sports Ministry should be rational in their decision to fire and hire a Coach for Nigeria. To my understanding, this Coach Genet Rohr has met part of the target given him to keep his job. He is also on the verge of meeting that of qualifying for the World Cup. Why not let him be? Suppose the New Coach didn’t qualify the Supper Eagles for the World Cup or beaten hands down during the Nations Cup,what will you say? Please, don’t forget that some players are already loyal at this point to the Coach and could cause a crack in the Supper Eagles with a New Coach. My humble submission is for the NFF and the Sports Ministry to be rational in their decision. Thank you.
