The Nigerian goalkeeper had his most comfortable match as Sparta Rotterdam finally picked up their first win in the Dutch top-flight since matchday four
Nigeria’s number one goalkeeper Maduka Okoye finally picked up his first clean sheet of the season in the Eredivisie as Sparta Rotterdam secured their second win of the campaign with a 3-0 win at Willem II.
Before Saturday, Okoye had not kept a clean sheet in 11 league games this season. However, he had one of his most comfortable matches at the Koning Willem II Stadion.
The Nigerian international was untested throughout the encounter as Willem had no shot on target. It is the least Okoye deserved after he was denied a clean sheet by Cyriel Dessers last Sunday.
Sparta went into the encounter with no wins in seven league games, but they got off to a good start at Willem as Bart Vriends put them ahead in the 17th minute.
Vriends then scored his second of the game 11 minutes later to double the away side’s advantage. And with 11 minutes to go, Emanuel Emegha ended any little hope Willem had left to score Sparta’s third.
The win lifts Spart to 15th with 10 points from 12 games.
