Super Eagles: One leading name emerges as MC Oran seeks replacement for Eric Chelle

MC Oran is now facing the task of finding a suitable replacement following the sudden exit of Eric Chelle to take charge of the Nigerian national team, Soccernet.ng reports.

Last week, the former Lens defender was named the new head coach of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations runners-up, and he was seen terminate his contract with the Algerian club.

The announcement of Chelle’s departure, which came before his last match in the Algerian Cup against USM Sétif, has left the club uncertain about their future direction.

Reports from Algerian media outlets suggest that MC Oran’s management has already begun considering potential candidates to take over the reins.

Among the names being discussed are prominent figures such as former Raja Casablanca coach, Josef Zinnbauer, who has experience in top-tier clubs, and is considered one of the leading candidates.

Alongside Zinnbauer, several other domestic and international profiles are under consideration, with the club keen on securing a coach capable of leading them to success in both domestic and continental competitions.

Chelle’s departure came just months after he took over at MC Oran, following the resignation of Youcef Bouzidi. During his brief tenure, he was instrumental in guiding the team through challenging times, but ultimately decided to accept the opportunity to lead the Super Eagles, citing the chance to manage one of the best teams in Africa as a key factor in his decision.

“I have the chance to join the best team in Africa and one of the best in the world. It’s true that I’m very selfish. But once again, I thank the Algerians, as well as the Oran public for the welcome,” said the Valenciennes FC legend.

While the club has not yet confirmed who will replace Chelle, the ongoing search for a new manager has already sparked speculation across Algeria.
