Two London-based English Premier League clubs eye move for West Brom’s Josh Maja

West Bromwich Albion and Super Eagles striker, Joshua Oluwaseun Maja, has been linked with a return to top-flight football in England, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 26-year-old tasted English Premier League football during the 2020/2021 season, joining Fulham on a six-month loan from French Ligue 1 side, Gironins de Bordeaux. In his time at Craven Cottage, he scored three goals in 15 games.

Maja has scored 12 goals and provided two assists for West Brom this season. He has led the Magpies to sixth place in the EFL Championships. His performances have caught the eyes of two London clubs, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

As per Fichajes, Chris Brunt’s side are willing to part with the one-capped Super Eagle for a fee of about £15 million, which shouldn’t be a problem for Chelsea and Tottenham who have the resources to get a deal across the line.

Chelsea are keen on bringing a quality competitor for Nicolas Jackson up front, as they’ve been wasteful in front of goal. Additionally, Maja would be a far cheaper option to their preference for fellow Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen.

While Ange Postecoglu’s Tottenham Hotspur signed Dominic Solanke for £55m with £10m in add-ons from Bournemouth in the summer, the LilyWhites do not have a proper backup for the former Chelsea man. Andrade Richarlison isn’t reliable due to his injury woes while Timo Werner has been wasteful in front of goal.

Spurs view Maja as a worthy backup for Solanke but are also keeping tabs on Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, who is looking to exit Old Trafford as soon as possible.

Another opportunity to play in the English Premier League would be a dream come true for Maja who has hinted he would like to play for Arsenal in the future. However, it is unknown if West Bromwich Albion are willing to let Maja leave during the winter transfer window.
