There was another round of game across Europe’s domestic leagues on Saturday, and yet again, Nigerian stars were not left out
Soccernet brings you a lowdown of how Nigerian players fared in Europe on Saturday.
Starting in Turkey, Blessing Eleke was the star as his brace helped Gençlerbirliği S.K secure a 2-0 win at Balikesirspor in Turkey’s second division.
The former FC Luzern star put the away side ahead in the ninth minute before scoring his second 12 minutes from time for his third goal in five league games.
In the Turkish top-flight, Chidozie Awaziem maintained his unbeaten start in Alanyaspor’s colours, but he was unfortunate to score an own goal as they drew 1-1 away at Konyaspor.
Emre Akbaba put Alanyaspor ahead in the 49th minute, but an own goal from Awaziem in the 87th minute denied the away side the victory.
Meanwhile, in Germany, Super Eagles returnee Kevin Akpoguma was a second-half substitute in Hoffenheim’s 3-1 loss at Stuttgart.
Akpoguma came on for Pavel Kaderabek in the 57th minute, but goals from Oliver Kempf, Kostantinos Mavropanos and Roberto Massimo were enough to give the home side the win.
In Portugal, Zaidu Sanusi was missing as Porto bounced back from their mid-week thrashing from Liverpool to beat Pacos Ferreira 2-1 in the Portuguese Primeira Liga.
In the English Premier League, Alex Iwobi was missing as Everton played a 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford, while William Troost-Ekong and Emmanuel Dennis were on the losing end as Watford lost 1-0 at Leeds United.
In Italy, Ola Aina was in action, but he could not prevent Torino from a 1-0 loss to Juventus in the first instalment of this season’s Turin derby.
Also, Simy Nwankwo and Joel Obi played their part as Salernitana picked up their first win in the Italian Serie A with a 1-0 win over Genoa.
In Spain, Asisat Oshoala continued her brilliant goalscoring form as Barcelona Femini thrashed Alaves 9-1 in their league clash on Saturday afternoon.
