Nigerian midfielder Frank Onyeka was a second-half substitute as the Bees stunned Wolves in an early Premier League kickoff on Saturday
Super Eagles ace Frank Onyeka featured for the last 22 minutes and helped ten-man Brentford claim a stunning 2-0 victory at Wolverhampton Wanderers in a Premier League matchday five fixture.
The convincing win is Brentford’s first English top-flight triumph away from home in 74 years.
The Bees had lost their first match of the season in a 1-0 home defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend and needed a quick response but started star midfielder Onyeka on the bench.
Still, newly-promoted Brentford led Wolves in front of their fans at the Molineux Stadium, thanks to first-half goals from Ivan Toney and Bryan Mbeumo. They held on to their lead but were a man short – following a Baptiste red card – before Onyeka was introduced in the 68th minute.
The 24-year-old dynamo only touched the ball five times and had one shot blocked, but it was enough to see the visitors keep a clean sheet and secure all the three points at stake.
It’s a massive win for Thomas Frank’s men, who next face a tough run of games against Liverpool, West Ham, Chelsea, and Leicester City.
