“Let him make mistakes without drama” – Legendary Napoli coach urges caution over Victor Osimhen

The Nigerian international has been the leading scorer for Napoli in the early part of the campaign, but a respected manager believes the going will get tougher

Former Napoli coach Ottavio Bianchi is convinced that Victor Osimhen is a quality young talent with massive potential and the desire to get even better.

But the veteran Italian manager has warned that the free-scoring Nigerian attacker must continue to feature as a crucial component of Napoli’s first team when his goals temporarily dry off.

Osimhen found the back net and won a penalty kick in Napoli’s 2-0 defeat of Cagliari at the Diego Maradona Stadium to bag his sixth goal in only four games.

The youngster’s hot form has seen him draw praises from all corners in Italy and beyond.

Current Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti has led the cheering for the Super Eagles striker, with ex-Sunderland boss Paolo Di Canio also admitting he didn’t expect the 22-year-old to possess such raw talent.

A former Real Madrid manager Fabio Capello is also sure that Osimhen will develop into a goalscoring machine. And on the front pages of today’s Corriere Dello Sport, Italy’s leading daily newspaper, Osimhen was called a phenomenon.

But Bianchi, who guided Napoli blessed with great players such as Diego Maradona and Careca to their first-ever Serie A title in the 1986–87 season, warns that Osimhen must be allowed to develop under little pressure.

The 77-year-old tactician predicts that the young Nigerian will make more mistakes and go through times without scoring but asks that those moments be accompanied with as little drama as possible.

“Young and interesting player, you have to leave him alone without much pressure because he has to improve, and he will certainly do it,” Bianchi told Marte Sport Live, as per Tutto Napoli.

“When you are so young in a particular environment like Naples, the best cure is to see him play and help him in difficult moments, as well as not get excited in moments of great value.

“He must be given the opportunity to make mistakes without drama.”

Osimhen’s goals have helped Napoli win all of their first six games of the season, with Il Partenopei now firmly installed as one of the candidates to lift the Scudetto.
