Aston Villa legend questions Brendan Rodgers over lack of game time for Iheanacho

The Nigerian striker was Leicester City’s best striker last season, but this season, he has been restricted to making appearances from the bench

Aston Villa legend Gabriel Agbonlahor has questioned Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers’ decision to relegate Kelechi Iheanacho to appearances from the bench despite his brilliant performances.

Iheanacho was a standout performer for Leicester City last season. With Jamie Vardy struggling with form last season, the former Nigeria U-17 star put up heroics to help Leicester City’s to their FA Cup triumph and a top-five finish in the Premier League.

The former Manchester City striker was also in good form during pre-season, scoring Leicester City’s winner against Manchester City in the Community shield.

With the kind of brilliance that Iheanacho has shown in recent times, Agbonlahor feels he deserves a place in the first team.

“You look at Iheanacho, what does he have to do to get a start? ” Agbonlahor told talk sports.

“You know, like he comes on, scores and back on the bench.”

Iheanacho came off the bench to provide the assist for Vardy’s equalizer against Burnley to salvage a point for the foxes.

Notwithstanding the circumstances, the Nigerian striker will hope that his consistent performances will help him break into the first team at the King Power.

  • Brendan Rodgers should open up and tell us his resentment towards iheanacho...cos I don't understand why you keep benching your best striker ... appalling

  • It's simply inconsistency and bias on the part of Brendan Rodger. Lack of regular action of Kelechi is conspicuously affecting the Team but Brendan isn't bother.

  • Brendan Rodgers needs to start using Kelechi in his starting lineup to achieve results in the ongoing EPL. I feel I heanacho has paid his dues. The strong Super Eagles attacking machine had the same challenge at Man' City because the Coach was interested in using some new players bought by the club, even though in my estimation they weren't better than Iheanacho.

Kelechi is doing very well and should be encouraged to reach his full potential by the Coach of Leicester City fc.

  • Senior Man Kel's has no bizness sitting on the bench. He aught 2 b a starter in d team now that d league is in it's early stage so that they can salvage some points which will make it easier 2wards d end of d season when they have failed 2 make d top 4 on d last day 4 two consecutive seasons.

  • Rodger's hate kelechi. Even vardy knows that kelechi is in fine form. Imagine the stupid coach playing luckman ademola.
I bet you Leicester city will settle on the bottom table if this man keep doing this.
If kelechi did not start the next EPL game , they will lose the game.

  • Last season iheanacho helped him a lot, he should understand that regular game will for him will help the team a lot, more, any time kelechi is coming in ,he should remove Barnes while very move to left, because that's the system that help leasister win a lot of games last season.

  • Iheanacho only got the chance last because Madison was injured, he was not in Blender Roger 's plan but then Iheanacho proved him wrong.

  • Brendan Rodger 's plan is to always play Iheanacho as a second fiddle to Madison not to be a regular but Kelechi Iheanacho only prove him wrong last season
