Report: Carrick’s Middlesbrough nears signing of Super Eagles star

EFL Championship side Middlesbrough are reportedly closing in on the signature of Super Eagles attacker Kelechi Iheanacho from Sevilla, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Nigerian attacker is currently at the center of various speculations linking him with a move away from the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium following his subpar performances since joining on a free transfer in the summer of 2024.

To add fuel to the fire, his compatriot Akor Adams has also been lured to Sevilla from Montpellier, further reducing Iheanacho’s priority in the squad.

Among many suitors, Middlesbrough have been said to be leading the race to sign the Nigerian. Sky Sports earlier revealed that Scottish club Celtic are considering a reunion between Iheanacho and manager Brendan Rodgers.

This has been labeled as speculation. But according to Sevilla manager García Pimienta, the former Leicester City player has been handed full responsibility to decide his next club.

“Kelechi Iheanacho has a lot of offers and absolute freedom to decide where he wants to go. It will come together anyway, as soon as there is an offer that satisfies all parties,” he said, as quoted by El Correo.

Regardless, many clubs seem ready to bring the Nigerian into their squad, but one of the key factors in his decision will be choosing a club where he can play regular football to revive his form.
