Taiwo Awoniyi continued his fine goalscoring form as he scored the winner in Union Berlin’s 2-1 win over Borussia Monchengladbach. It was Awoniyi’s third goal in three Bundesliga games this season, but fifth in all competitions.
In the second division, Jamilu Collins provided an assist to help Paderborn secure an impressive 3-0 win over Dynamo Dresden.
Sven Michel put Paderborn ahead in the eighth minute before Kai Pröger doubled the away side’s advantage with a strike in the 24th minute.
Collins then provided the assist for Proger’s second and Paderborn’s third two minutes later.
In the Slovakian top-flight, Ezekiel Henty was the hero for Slovan Bratislava after he scored a hat-trick in the 4-1 win over FC ViOn Zlaté Moravce.
Tomáš Ďubek opened the scoring for Moravce, but Henty drew the home side level with a perfect left-footed volley in the 43rd minute. The Nigerian then put his side ahead two minutes after the break before Aleksandar Čavrić made it 3-1 in the 49th minute.
Henty completed his hat-trick eight minutes before time, slotting past Matúš Kira after he was played through on goal.
Meanwhile, in Belgium, Ike Ugbo got his Genk career off to a perfect start after he came on to score the winner in their 1-0 win over Anderlecht.
In France, Terem Moffi fired blanks, but he provided an assist as Lorient held Lens to a 2-2 draw at the Estadio Bollaert-Dellis.
Samuel Chukwueze was missing again for Villarreal, but their Nigerian-born Dutch forward Arnaut Danjuma scored his first league goal in the 2-2 draw at Atletico Madrid.
Leon Balogun put in a man of the match display as Rangers secured a 1-0 win over Old Firm rivals Celtic in their Scottish Premiership clash.
Finally, in England, Oghenekaro Etebo, William Troost-Ekong and Emmanuel Dennis all played for 90 minutes, but they could not prevent Watford from a 1-0 loss against Tottenham Hotspur.
