Nigerian Striker set to leave Genk

There are currently four Nigerian players in The Smurfs squad, but one is set to leave just before the transfer window shuts

Nigeria International Stephen Odey is set to leave Genk for Danish side Randers. The Nigerian forward has been unsettled since joining the Blauw-wit, and Voetbal primeur reports that he is set to leave the Belgium Cup Champions on a loan deal to Randers.

The former MFM striker has had an unsettled stay in Belgium since he moved from FC Zurich in July 2019.

Genk are spoilt for choice in the striking position as they have Cyril Dessers, top hitman Paul Onuachu, and their latest signing, Ike Ugbo. The presence of these Nigerian stars has made it difficult for Odey to pin down a shirt.

Odey spent last season on loan at French side Amiens, and he scored six goals in 28 league appearances, but it’s still not enough to impress Genk manager Jon van den Brom.

Odey has two caps for the Super Eagles, but he hasn’t played for the team since 2017. A move away from Genk could help his career.
