The Dutch club could be in the market for a new goalkeeper should their number one gloves depart the club as expected this summer
Nigerian international goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has responded to reports linking him to a move to AZ Alkmaar during the summer transfer window.
The Super Eagles shot-stopper has made it clear that he is not close to joining AZ Alkmaar. But the 20-year-old insists he would jump at the opportunity to sign for the Cheese Farmers should they make a bid for his signature.
With Marco Bizot in goal, AZ finished 3rd in the Eredivisie last term, but the highflyers could lose their top keeper this summer.
Bizot would have to leave AZ for the Cheese Farmers to move for Okoye, and the Nigerian international says it would be an opportunity he won’t let go of.
“They haven’t talked to me, and as long as Marco Bizot is still there, I don’t know either,” Okoye told ESPN as per VoetbalPrimeur.
“Of course, it would be a perfect step for me to take a bigger step from there.”
Okoye has seen a rise in fortune since switching to the Netherlands last year.
The youngster finished the regular Eredivisie season as the best goalkeeper in the top-flight after keeping ten clean sheets in 24 games for Sparta.
