Girondins Bordeaux has made public the result of the numerous medical examinations carried out on Samuel Kalu following his collapse at the Orange Velodrome on Sunday.
Kalu is fine and ready to return to team training on Wednesday. Medical checks have confirmed that the Nigerian international winger only fainted and has no cardiac anomalies as earlier feared, the club announced on Tuesday.
In a statement made available on the club’s website, Bordeaux said: “A battery of medical checks have confirmed that he has no cardiac anomalies to worry about. He simply fainted at the Stade Vélodrome during Sunday’s game.
“Reassuring news for Samuel Kalu, who will be competing for a place in the team to face Angers this weekend (Sunday at 3 pm).
After five minutes of play in a crucial away game at Olympique Marseille, Kalu suddenly fainted, giving his teammates and opposing players a big scare as they frantically waived for the medical team to intervene urgently.
The Super Eagles playmaker regained consciousness after receiving treatment, got up, and continued playing for several minutes before he was replaced by Remi Oudin after a quarter of an hour.
Bordeaux later fought to draw the match 2-2 after going two goals down as Vladimir Petkovic’s men picked their first point of the season.
