Behind every disappointment, there is a blessing. This will be the motto for 19-year-old Amoo. After the disappointment of the 2019 FIFA Under-17 world cup, which saw the Golden Eaglets exit the competition in the round of sixteen, it all looked bleak for Akinkunmi Amoo.

Still, he has managed to rise from the disappointment, and he is now playing for one of the top teams in the Swedish league.

The Ibadan born winger joined Swede side, Hammarby IF, in June 2020, a few months after his participation in the Under-17 World Cup.

The Sido’s FC product moved for a fee of about €200,000. He has since cemented his first place in the first team at Hammarby, featuring in all Allsvenskan fixtures for his side this season.

Last season, he could only feature in six games, but he had an assist to his name. However, he has added goals to his games this season.

Under Milos Milojevic, Amoo has had an excellent season, scoring four times and providing one assist in ten league games.

In his one year at Hammarby, Amoo has improved rapidly. The former Under-17 World Cup star has seen his price rise to a whooping €3m, according to transfermarkt.

Amoo is gifted with nimble feet and lightning pace, and with his development right on track, it’s only a matter of time before he gets into the Nigeria senior team.
