The Hornets have announced the signing of the Nigerian international, but they might have fooled a lot of people with the announcement

Watford have confirmed the signing of Oghenekaro Etebo in the most astonishing way. The newly-promoted Premier League side posted a picture of the Super Eagles star and Argentina captain on their Twitter page with the caption: And for our next signing.

The picture is from Nigeria’s clash against Argentina at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Etebo joins the Hornets on a season-long loan deal from Stoke City with an option to buy.

A statement on the club’s website read: Watford FC is pleased to confirm the signing of Peter Etebo on a season-long loan from Stoke City, with an option to buy.

The Super Eagles star will now hope he can get his career back on track at Vicarage Road when the new Premier League season kicks off on August 13.

Etebo has struggled in the last two seasons. The 25-year-old spent last season on loan at Galatasaray, but he failed to impress as the Lions narrowly missed out on the Super Lig title.

The former Warri Wolves also had a loan stint with Getafe in the 2019/2020 campaign, but his season was blighted with injuries and coronavirus break.

However, he would hope to put the struggles of the last two seasons behind him when he makes his debut for Watford.

Meanwhile, the Hornets are turning out to be a team Nigerian team as Etebo is the second Super Eagles star they’ve signed this summer after Emmanuel Dennis.

Watford also have William Troost-Ekong, Isaac Success and Tom Dele-Bashiru in their squad.
