There were a couple of Nigerian players that represented their clubs in friendly games and UEFA Champions League qualifiers on Tuesday night
Super Eagles hopeful and Genk bound Ike Ugbo was Chelsea’s hero after he scored the winner in the Blues 2-1 win over Bournemouth in a pre-season friendly at Stamford Bridge.
Ugbo, who is close to leaving for Genk, headed home the winner from a Ross Barkley corner kick in the 76th-minute.
Bournemouth had taken the lead in the 66th minute through Emiliano Marcondes, but Armando Broja drew Chelsea level in the 72nd minute before Ugbo fired home the winner four minutes later.
Meanwhile, in the Champions League qualifiers, the night ended in disappointment for Super Eagles stars in action.
Shehu Abdullahi played for the whole 90 minutes, but his Omonia Nicosia side lost 1-0 at home to Dinamo Zagreb.
Omonia needed to win, having lost the first leg 2-0. However, a Luka Menalo strike 11 minutes from time ensured the Croatians progressed comfortably 3-0 on aggregate.
In Lithuania, Ogenyi Onazi could not recreate his first qualifying round magic as Zalgiris Vilnius’ Champions League journey came to an end after losing 3-1 at home to Ferencvaros.
Onazi scored in the first qualifying round for Vilnius, but he had a disappointing game last night, picking up a yellow card in the 32nd minute.
Vilnius went into the game with the aim of overturning a 2-0 deficit from the first leg. But they got off to a worse possible start as Ryan Kabir put Ferencvaros ahead a minute from half-time.
It got worse for the home side as Kabir scored his second of the game in the 72nd minute to put his team in a comfortable position.
Elhadji Pape Diaw pulled one back for Vilnius in the third minute of added time, but Robert Mak’s strike a minute later sealed a comfortable win for Ferencvaros.
