Moses Odubajo: Meet the Nigerian-eligible midfielder who scored against Manchester United

On Saturday, QPR took on Machester United in a club-friendly and in the starting line-up for the Hoops was Moses Odubajo.

Odubajo scored the second of the quickfire goals for Queens Park Rangers. His goal, which was the third, was an absolute peach of a goal. He sent the rocket flying into the back of the net from metres outside of the box.

With such a fantastic goal comes the amazing discovery that the 27-year-old is not contracted to the club.

Odubajo started his youth career at Leyton Orient in 2011, six years after he was orphaned. He started his career as a utility player, during which he impressed.

This earned him a move to Brentford. As at the time, he was one of Brentford’s most expensive signings at €1.25m.

He spent one season at Brentford before making a €5m move to Hull City in 2015. Odubajo was a key part of the Hull City team.

He played 53 games in one season. It wasn’t a surprise that he suffered a dislocated kneecap during pre-season in the 2016/17 season, which caused ligament damage.

That was the beginning of his woes. After he came back from that injury, he was never the same player again.  He was loaned to Brentford, where he made 35 appearances in all competitions, but he wasn’t offered a permanent deal as he was surplus to requirements.

However, Sheffield Wednesday offered him a deal in July 2019, but the Greenwich born player only stayed with the Owls for two years.

Odubajo could hardly play games during his time at Sheffield as he was often sidelined due to injury issues – he featured in only forty league games out of a possible 92 during his time at Sheffield Wednesday.

Since leaving Sheffield, Odubajo has been training with QPR, who are managed by Mark Warburton- his manager during his first stint at Brentford.

The 27-year-old has been trying to prove his fitness to the Hoops, and according to yesterday’s report, it looks like an offer would be on the table soon.

Odubajo has never featured for the English senior team at the international level, but he has two England U-20 caps to his name.

However, he is still eligible for selection for the Super Eagles.
