The Belgian giants are putting together a team strong enough to challenge Club Brugge for the league title and have placed one of Nigeria’s shot-stoppers on their wish list
Anderlecht have identified Super Eagles star Maduka Okoye as a potential quality addition to their squad and will look to sign the Sparta Rotterdam goalkeeper when the conditions are right, as per Voetbalnieuws.
The Purple and Whites are presently pursuing other transfer targets and may not move for Okoye any time soon as he is not considered a priority signing.
However, Okoye who has been linked with Ajax, is also on the radar of fellow Dutch giants AZ Alkmaar, says FCUpdate.
AZ could see first-choice goalkeeper Marco Bizot depart for Olympiakos and have reportedly identified Okoye’s name among their potential transfer targets.
It has been a remarkable rise to the top for Okoye, who was merely a reserve goalie at lowly German side Fortuna Dusseldorf only a few months ago.
But the German-born shot-stopper has beaten away fierce competition to emerge as the first-choice goalkeeper for club and country.
An eight-cap Nigerian international, Okoye was excellent last season as he featured in 28 league games for Sparta and kept ten clean sheets while boasting a 68% save rate.
He was subsequently named into the Eredivisie Team of the Year and voted his club’s player of the season.
