The German tactician won’t be in charge when Nigeria take on Mexico in an international friendly match, but he visited the team’s camp on Wednesday morning
Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr was in attendance as the 25 players from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) invited for the clash against Mexico had their first training session.
The three-time African champions play the defending Gold Cup champions in an international friendly on July 4 at the Los Angeles Coliseum.
Mexico’s national team coach Gerardo Martino has invited a star-studded 45-man squad, but they will face a Nigerian team full of home-based players.
The Super Eagles will be without their foreign professionals as they will be in pre-season training with their respective by then.
And as reported by Soccernet earlier, Austin Eguavoen and not Gernot Rohr would be in charge of the team for that encounter.
Nonetheless, the former Bordeaux coach was in Abuja to watch the players opening training session. Twenty-two players out of the 25 invited are already in camp, and they had their first training under the watchful eyes of Rohr.
Nigeria will be seeking their first win in six attempts when they take on Mexico on July 4.
