The Super League birth and death has been the major news in football over the last three days, but there were still in action in some European leagues last night, and a few Nigerians featured for their clubs
Former MFM Star Stephen Odey scored his fourth league goal of the season to help Amiens to a 3-1 victory over Valenciennes in the French Ligue 2.
The Nigerian international scored Amiens third goal at the Stade de la Licorne on Tuesday night. Arnaud Lusamba penalty in the 64th minute put the home side ahead, but Joffrey Cuffaut levelled scores for Valenciennes in the first minute of added time.
However, goals from Mickael Alphonse and Stephen Odey in the second and fourth minute of added time secured a dramatic win for Amiens.
Odey, who is on loan from Genk, has now scored four times in 23 league appearances for Amiens this season.
Meanwhile, in England, William Troost Ekong is close to achieving his dream of playing in the Premier League after Watford beat already promoted Norwich at Carrow Road.
Ekong was rock-solid at the back for the Hornets. The Super Eagles vice-captain blocked three shots and made three clearances, while he also had a pass accuracy of 84%.
A Dan Gosling strike in the 57th minute was enough to give Watford the three points. The Hornets are now just a point away from sealing an immediate return to the Premier League.
In Germany, Kingsley Ehizibue was on the pitch for 75 minutes as FC Cologne secured an important 2-1 win over RB Leipzig.
Jonas Hector put Cologne ahead a minute after the break, but Amadou Haidara levelled scores for Leipzig just before the hour mark. However, Hector’s scored his second on the hour mark to give Cologne the win.
Despite the win, the Bily Goats are still in the relegation zone, but they are now only two points from safety.
