The two Nigerian forwards were rivals for nearly ninety minutes on Sunday, but there was no victor, no vanquished between the 2013 Afcon winner and the Super Eagles invitee
Simon Moses delivered an excellent performance, but it was not enough to power Nantes past Terem Moffi’s Lorient as both sides settled for a 1-1 draw at the Stade de la Beaujoire.
Both Moses and Moffi started for their respective clubs, with Nantes knowing a victory could lift them out of the relegation zone with Lorient taking their place.
And it was the hosts who made the perfect start, taking the lead in just the second minute courtesy of Randal Kolo Muani’s superb finish off an Abdoulaye Toure assist.
There were no goals from both sides until two minutes before the end when Lorient’s Armand Lauriente curled a superb, goal-of-the-season-contending free-kick to level proceedings and earned a massive point for the visitors.
Moses was lively for the 76 minutes he was on the pitch, completing two of his six attempted dribbles and winning four of nine duels. The 24-year-old winger, however, missed one big chance early in the second half to extend the Yellow Canaries’ lead.
His compatriot Moffi did not do poorly either, impressing with his footwork and seeing 87% of his passes reaching their intended targets. The young striker, however, only managed two shots, with none hitting the target.
Moffi would be the happier of the two Nigerians, though, as that well-earned away point kept Lorient 17th on the Ligue 1 table, just above Nantes in 18th.
Both Nigerian forwards are presently out of the 24-man Super Eagles squad preparing to face the Benin Republic and Lesotho in next week’s Afcon qualifiers.
