The Super Eagles have booked their place in next year’s Africa Cup of Nations, even though they still have two games to play
Nigeria’s Super Eagles are through to next year’s AFCON tournament with two games to spare. The Super Eagles qualification was confirmed after Lesotho and Sierra Leone played out a goalless draw.
The three-time African champions initially needed a point from the final two qualifiers against The Benin Republic and Lesotho in Group L to seal qualification.
But Sierra Leone’s draw against Lesotho means the three-time African champions are assured of their place in Cameroon next year.
However, the top spot is still up for grabs, but they can also secure their place as group leaders if they beat Benin at the Charles de Gaulle Stadium on Saturday evening.
Gernot Rohr’s men currently have eight points from four games, with Benin a point behind from the same number of games.
But a win for the Super Eagles against their West African neighbours will put them four points clear going into the final round of games on Tuesday.
