Onuachu Thanks Super Eagles Fans Despite Past Criticism

The Genk striker is not many people’s favourite because of his style, but he silenced his critics in the last two international games

Paul Onuachu has hinted that fans’ criticism motivated him more to show that he belongs in the Super Eagles squad.

Onuachu has always come under criticism in his time with the national team. The former Midtjylland striker was not initially in the 24-man squad released by Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr for the last two Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

However, Nantes refusal to release Moses Simon meant Onuachu was called up for the games against the Benin Republic and Lesotho.

And it was an opportunity Onuachu grabbed as he scored the winner in the clash against Benin and the third goal in the match against Lesotho.

The 26-year-old has now silenced his critics, but he insists fans criticism pushed him to show his worth in the team.

“They really pushed me to show what I have to show in the national team right now,” Onuachu said after the game against Lesotho.

“I did it, and I’m so happy for the team and the country,” he added.

Onuachu has now scored 29 goals for club and country this season.
