The former Nigerian skipper revealed that his nephew was not keen on switching the Gunners for the Toffees nearly two years ago, but the comment has not gone down well with several Evertonians
Austin Jay-Jay Okocha’s revelation that Arsenal almost bullied Alex Iwobi into signing for Everton in the summer of 2019 has left a section of the Toffees fans venting at the Super Eagles playmaker.
As reported by Soccernet.ng earlier via Goal, Okocha lifted the lid on Iwobi’s move from Arsenal to the Goodison Park faithful.
The legendary Nigerian midfield maestro said Arsenal called Iwobi unexpectedly and compelled him to sign for Everton, hinting that was the reason Iwobi failed to sparkle in his first season at Goodison Park.
A string of unconvincing performances trailed the heels of Iwobi after inking a £34 million deal with the Merseyside club.
A lot was expected of the Nigerian star, but, aside from a few excellent displays, he has never really been able to live up to his inflated price tag.
The 24-year-old has only managed two goals and another two assists in 50 games in total in the Premier League for the Toffees over the last two consecutive terms.
This stat has ensured that Iwobi is not a fan favourite at Everton, and Okocha’s recent comments have only enraged the club’s supporters more, with a few letting their displeasure felt on Twitter.
