Super Saturday For Two Nigerian Goalkeepers Abroad

It was a good day at work in France and South Africa for Nigeria's duo of Chiamaka Nnadozie and Daniel Akpeyi, respectively

Kaizer Chiefs steamrolled to another away victory triumphing 2-1 at Cape Town City with special thanks to Super Eagles goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi.

Chiefs were rewarded for a great start to the game with Nkosingiphile Ngcobo grabbing the opener in the 7th minute after great work by the Glamour Boys.

However, it should have been 1-1 moment later to the Citizens, but Akpeyi made a great save to deny Nodada's fierce shot on target.

And Amakhosi doubled their lead in the 19th minute after a superb assist from Kokota allowed Happy Mashiane room and time to round off Leeuwenburgh and put the ball in the back of the net.

But Akpeyi was called to action again in the 26th minute; the Nigerian shot-stopper made a save with his leg and then showed quick awareness in collecting the ball to deny Mdantsane's attempt.

Two minutes later, the 34-year-old was at it again, calmly collecting the ball when a goalmouth scrabble nearly gifted the hosts a vital goal.

Two excellent saves in succession – one just before the break and the other shortly after the interval – helped Akpeyi preserve his clean sheet.

But his net was finally breached seven minutes from time when Fagrie Lakay turned home from close range.

Despite the Citizens' late surge for the equaliser, Gavin Hunt's men held on brilliantly for their second away win in a row.

The win, Kaizer Chiefs' third in their last four games, takes the former South African champions to 11th on the league table.

In France, Chiamaka Nnadozie began the year 2021 spectacularly as she guided Paris FC to a 3-0 victory at Soyaux.

The Super Falcon's goalkeeper ended 2020 with mixed feelings, scoring an own goal in her side's 3-2 triumph over Dijon on December 12.

But there was no error in the 20-year-old's game at the Stade Léo Lagrange as a brace from Clara Mateo and another strike from Evelyne Viens inspired the visitors to a commanding win.

Nnadozie, a 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations winner, has made five appearances in the Feminine Division 1 for Paris FC this term and has been left on the bench six times.

Paris FC, sixth on the league table, next host champions Olympique Lyonnais at the Stade Robert Bobin in Bondoufle on Friday.
