The ex-Midtjylland striker was at his brilliant best once again as pressure increases on the Super Eagles manager to give him a chance
Paul Onuachu impressive season continued after scoring twice in Genk’s 3-2 win over Zulte Waregem in their Jupiler League clash on Wednesday night.
Onuachu’s brace takes his tally to 22 goals in 23 league games, and it also increases the pressure on Gernot Rohr, who is not a fan of the attacker.
Genk have lost their spark in recent games, which appeared to affect them going into Wednesday’s clash.
Although they started on the front foot, it was not until the added minute of the opening half that they got the opener.
And it came from the boot of Onuachu, tapping in a ball from Daniel Munoz. The goal gave Genk the lift, and they doubled their lead eight minutes after the break courtesy of another finish from Onuachu.
The Nigerian international headed home a ball from Bryan Heynen to double Genk’s advantage before Junya Ito then made it three in the 67th minute.
Genk looked to be cruising to victory until Zulte pulled one back through Laurens De Bock in the 72nd minute.
Gianni Bruno’s strike two minutes from time then set up a nervy finish, but Genk held on to secure their first win in three games.
