The former Super Eagles goalkeeper made history in Europe last year, and he is ready to continue in the same vein with his country
Ndubuisi Egbo has said he is ready to take the Super Eagles job if offered by the Nigeria Football Federation.
Gernot Rohr is currently in charge of Nigeria’s national team, but the German has come under immense pressure in the last few months following a series of unimpressive results.
Egbo has now revealed he would be interested in taking up the role should the NFF decide to make changes anytime.
“Like I have said in many interviews, it is like a military service that you do for your country,” Egbo told Punch.
“When you are called upon you don’t have any choice, unless I’m in a contract with another team and it is difficult to go away from there.”
The former Super Eagles goalkeeper made history last year when he became the first African manager win a league title in Europe following his victory with KF Tirana in the Albanian top-flight.
He was also the first African manager to coach a team in the Champions League and Europa League. Egbo is not done creating history and revealed he would love to win the World Cup with Nigeria.
“I always remember what Pele said that he dreamt that one day an African country would win the World Cup. I’m seeing Nigeria winning the World Cup. That is one of the dreams I want to achieve for my continent.”
Egbo also added that Africans need to start appreciating their own if they want Europeans to start regarding African managers.
“I always say I don’t blame the whites anymore because we blacks are our own problems. We’ve decided to accept what other people are saying about us, and that means we are already finished.
“We need to start giving our own coaches the opportunities to prove their talents and also time because we will make mistakes in the beginning and we will learn.”
“Just like they are giving opportunity and time to (Super Eagles coach) Gernot Rohr; after five years he has not won any major trophy, and he is still there. But Emmanuel Amuneke and Sunday Oliseh were not given enough time.
Egbo has been without a job since he was sacked by Tirana last year.
