The Nigerian forward only completed a third loan move to Istanbul a few days ago but has taken little time to make his impact felt for the Yellow-Reds
It’s the perfect start to life in Turkey for Henry Onyekuru as the Super Eagles winger netted a brace for Galatasaray in the Lions composed 2-1 Super Lig victory at Gaziantep FK on Friday afternoon.
Few days after Onyekuru quit Monaco temporarily for being considered surplus to requirements, the ex-Eupen ace’s name will make the headlines following a perfect performance on his latest Gala debut.
It has taken the former Everton only five minutes to mark his return to the Turkish top-flight with his first goal of the season.
Onyekuru was introduced at the start of the second half, with Galatasaray finding it difficult to break down their hosts.
And the 23-year-old showed fine finishing instincts to send the ball past Gaziantep’s goalie and hand Fatih Terim’s men the lead against a side that had lost just three of their last 23 matches in all competitions.
But the Onyekuru show was far from being over, with compatriot Oghenekaro Etebo involved heavily in the build-up to the youngster’s second goal.
Etebo, minutes after coming on as a substitute, made a sharp burst forward down the right-wing before sending a pass to Kerem Aktürkoğlu.
The Turkish midfielder spotted Onyekuru’s run, and the on-loan attacker used his pace beautifully to reach the through pass and slip his finish beyond the reach of the goalkeeper.
Two goals in 27 minutes it is for the young man who mustered only an assist in 141 Ligue 1 minutes this term.
It could have gotten even better for Onyekuru, who was close to notching an assist minutes after securing his brace.
But former Liverpool man Ryan Babel sent a lame shot at the goalkeeper when an Onyekuru pass gave him a sight of goal.
A late penalty reduced the deficit for the home side, but Onyekuru’s brilliance was enough to secure all three points for Galatasaray.
