The Nigerian forward continued his excellent goalscoring form to help his lower league side advance to the next round of the cup competition at the expense of their more-fancied foes
Umar Sadiq was at the double on Saturday afternoon to help Segunda side Almeria progress to the next round of the Copa del Rey courtesy of an impressive 5-0 win over La Liga outfit Deportivo Alaves.
The 23-year-old has been one of the most in-form strikers in the Spanish second division, scoring six times in his last five games.
And he got the home side to the best possible start at the Estadio de Los Juegos Mediterráneos with the opener in just the eighth minute, converting a fine pass from Jose Corpas.
Ager Aketxe doubled Almeria’s advantage also thanks to a Corpas’ assist on the stroke of halftime.
But there was still enough time for Umar Sadiq to blast home his brace – and his side’s third goal – before the referee blew for the end of the first half.
A Rodrigo Battaglia own goal shortly after the restart and an 81st minute Juan Villar penalty condemned Deportivo Alaves to their worst defeat since losing by the same scoreline to Barcelona back in July.
Sadiq, who joined Almeria in the summer from Serbia’s Partizan Belgrade, as nine goals in 18 league games for Abelardo Fernandez’s side, but his goals on Saturday are his first in the Copa del Rey.
