The Nigeria youth international came off the bench to help the champions power past Eupen on Saturday
David Okereke needed only two minutes on the field to make his impact felt as Club Brugge picked up an excellent 3-0 victory over AS Eupen at the Jan Breydelstadion.
Despite seeing Hans Vanaken sent off in the second half, the hosts had enough in their armoury to shoot down their visitors and secure the top spot of the Belgian First Division A table for the year 2020.
Eupen had done well for themselves in recent weeks, losing none of their five league games and rising to 12th on the league table after amassing 20 points in 15 matches.
And they proved a difficult opponent in the opening half of the encounter, keeping the home side at bay.
But Noa Long, by far Brugge’s best player on the day, broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute and added a second goal six minutes later.
But Belgian midfielder Vanaken was shown a straight red card with eleven minutes of play left, putting the reigning champion’s victory in jeopardy.
However, Okereke, introduced into the fray in the 80th minute for Krepin Diatta, ensured the maximum points with his third goal of the campaign in the 82nd minute.
With the win, Club Brugge are five points clear of second-placed Genk and are guaranteed to end the year at the top of the league table.
