Super Eagles striker Simy Nwankwo was a second-half substitute as Crotone secured their second league win of the season following a 2-1 victory over Parma in their Serie A clash.
Crotone took the lead in the 23rd minute through Junior Messias before the Brazilian scored his second in the 43rd minute to double the home side’s lead.
Juraj Kucka pulled one back for Parma in the 56th minute to get back into the game, but Simy Nwankwo’s introduction on the hour mark helped Crotone hold on for their second league win.
Although he could not add to his four-goal tally this season, Simy was brilliant with his hold-up play and even managed a shot on target.
The win takes Crotone up to 18th on the table, just two points behind Spezia in 17th place- although Spezia have a game in hand.
Meanwhile in Turkey, Anthony Nwakaeme was on for the entire duration as Trabzonspor moved up to eighth place in the Super Lig following a 1-0 victory at Hatayspor.
Nwakaeme has three goals in ten league games this season, but he could not make it four last night. Still, his all-round play was impressive, winning six duels while he also had one shot on target.
Vitor Hugo’s strike in the 74th minute was enough to secure the three points for Omer Erdogan’s side.
In another Turkish top-flight game, Oghenekaro Etebo was missing for Galatasaray as the Lions secured a 3-1 win over Goztepe. Etebo has made eight appearances for Faith Terim’s side this season with three coming as starts.
Galatasaray stay second with 26 points- same as table toppers Alanyaspor, who have a better goal difference.
